CHRISTOPHER MCKITTERICK

GAMING

ALL WORK and no play makes Chris a dull boy. One of my hobbies is gaming, mostly card games. My longtime favorite is Battletech CCG, a card game where you build 90-ton killer robot tanks and go head-to-head against an opposing 'Mech commander. The goal is to wipe out your opponent's ability to continue to wage war. Great, silly fun. Battletech is a whole set of gaming properties, from computer games to miniatures to role-playing, along with the card game. I've written several articles about the card game for Top Deck magazine.

Another game I'm fond of is good ol' Magic: The Gathering. It's called "flat-crack" for those of us who feel compelled to collect. Here's the complete collector's guide to M:TG cards.

I've designed a few Dungeons & Dragons adventures, including one that was collected into TSR Jam. I don't have enough time to play role-playing games lately.

Speaking of D&D, I'm also a game designer, and of course love to customize whatever I'm currently playing to suit my interests. Any game gets better when you add steam-powered flywheels and rocket engines!

For example, here are the rules my Seattle play group uses for the multiplayer, dual-stockpile version of Battletech CCG.
